Ladd’s Addition

Named after William S. Ladd, the 19th Century Portland mayor, this historical neighborhood is well known for its unconventional, diagonal street pattern. The area is solely residential, with the center being a large traffic circle that surrounds a park. There are four, diamond shaped areas that host test rose gardens as well. The unique neighborhood was designated a historic district by the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The area is tucked between Hawthorne St. to the north, Division to the south, and in between 12th and 21st Ave. The housing ranges from small bungalows to large craftsman style on expansive lots. Most homes were built between 1905 and 1920. The narrow streets are beautifully lined by Elm trees.
