First there was the Beaverton Mall makeover that turned the echoing walls of the dismal suburban mall into the bustling Cedar Hills Crossing. Now development on the shopping center continues. This expansion was ignited by the fall of Borders Bookstore in 2011 that left that expansive building sitting dark ever since.

C.E. John plans to add 24,000 square feet of retail space, which includes 16,500 of new space and 7,500 of remodeled space. Remodels include a new sidewalk, new bike lanes and new entrance to the shopping center. New tenants will comprise of small retailers, restaurants, services and soft goods users. The construction follows the newer trend of smaller retail space. Even many of the well known Big Box companies are moving toward  a smaller space prototype and away from the expensive warehouse megastores. This expansion project is expected to produce 60 jobs during construction and closer to 300 once retailers move in.

Vancouver based Real Estate Developer, C.E. John, is investing $9 million in this project and hope to have it ready for new tenants fall 2013.
